An evening in Palo Alto

Good evening. Took a stroll down University Ave after work today. It was slightly chilly, but pleasant. Perhaps a bit cool for no jacket. University Ave certainly has the most character compared to the other main drags (Castro St, Murphy Ave) in the area.

Cool building on University Ave Palo Alto Post Office

Nice post office.

For dinner, I visited Ethel’s Fancy. Fancy indeed! I liked it quite a lot. Ceiling at Ethel's Fancy Cool ceiling. I think that’s a Murakami.

I ordered:

The restaurant staff were very kind. They gave me a complimentary snap pea dish, which was really good! I wondered if they thought I was some food influencer, since I was alone and taking photos? I guess I am a food blogger now… 🤣 I was sat at the “chef’s table” and got a front row seat of the well oiled machine preparing everyone’s dinner. My seat also happened to be adjacent to their grill, which was especially nice given my limited outerwear. I was confronted many times to confirm if I was uncomfortable, I assured them I was not. Dishes were dipped into the oven before plating, my grandmother would be pleased. If I were to return I’d certainly like to have that same seat again.

Spring strawberries The grill

All in all, it was a very good meal. I would skip on the pancakes, they were not very exciting although the sauce was tasty. Strawberries were fascinating! I think this is what Lolita’s grapefruit slush wishes it could be.

The ambience and hospitality alone at Ethel’s make it worth a visit.
